Ground Stabilisation

Due to a combination of practical underground surveying experience in Scotland's pits and mines, together with experience in predicting and dealing with the effects of subsidence, JWH Ross and Co Ltd enjoy an advantageous position in providing services to clients connected with restoration and treatment of unstable ground.

The concept of pressure grouting old mine works and pit shafts, now widely adopted, was pioneered by JWH Ross and Co in the late 1950s.

JWH Ross and Co Ltd have successfully designed and supervised the stabilisation/artificial consolidation of numerous old pit shafts, mine entrances and sites affected by shallow mine workings.

In certain circumstances, shallow coal workings may be removed by mass excavation, backfilling and compaction prior to new development; the recovered coal offsetting the cost of works. JWH Ross and Co Ltd has valuable experience in controlling such projects, which obviously require careful planning and supervision.

Major projects successfully completed over the years include hospitals, universities, superstores, commercial developments, motorways, pipelines, electricity pylons and existing residential properties ranging from tenements to single houses.
